Moonee Ponds · Local Business
Research Phase
Before writing a single line of code, our research agent studied 42 Cafe & Bar — their current website, social presence, reviews, team, and services. Here's what stood out.
42 Cafe & Bar at 42 Puckle Street, Moonee Ponds is permanently closed according to Google Maps — making this a case study in building a demo site for a business that no longer operates, with all data sourced from historical reviews and cached listings.
Held 4.0 stars from 48 Google reviews (21 five-star, 15 four-star) and 4.2 stars from 5 Yelp reviews — reviewers consistently praised the corn fritters, gluten-free breakfast board, and 'best poached eggs', while noting the interior was 'surprising and unique' compared to the 'upper class' exterior.
The cafe's previous menu was hosted on entreemaindessert.com.au — a domain now expired — and offered a range including loose leaf teas, grilled croissants, French toast, and a parma, with hours of 8:30am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 8:30am-4pm Sunday.
Design Phase
Every design decision was intentional — informed by the research, not pulled from a template library.
Visual Direction
A 6-page site with 1,942 lines of custom TSX, featuring a dedicated gallery page and an order/book page. The structure includes home, about, contact, gallery, menu, and order-book pages — designed to showcase the cafe's food photography and warm interior atmosphere that reviewers specifically highlighted as a distinguishing feature.
Design Rationale
Even as a permanently closed venue, 42 Cafe & Bar's story demonstrates the demo-building process for hospitality businesses. The design emphasises the visual experience reviewers described — the contrast between refined exterior and unique interior — while the menu page structures the food items (corn fritters, GF breakfast board, loose leaf teas) that drove repeat visits according to Google reviews.
Build Phase
Site Architecture
// Next.js App Router
Methodology
Spark (research agent) scraped 42 Cafe & Bar's current website, Google reviews, social media, and business listings. Every piece of real data — team names, service pricing, business hours, unique details — was extracted into a structured profile.
Based on the research, a bespoke design direction was created specifically for 42 Cafe & Bar. No templates — the typography, color palette, layout patterns, and visual effects were all chosen to match this business's personality and industry.
Pixel (design agent) built the entire 6-page Next.js application from scratch — 2 custom components, real content from the research phase, App Router with proper routing, and production-grade code.
Sentinel (QA agent) verified the build compiles cleanly, checked for placeholder content, validated all routes render correctly, and confirmed the design is unique (not recycled from another demo).
Additional Notes
Research covered 8 sources including Google Maps (which confirmed permanent closure), Yelp listing (5 reviews, hours data), and cached Google review content. Data completeness was medium — no active website exists (domain expired), Facebook pages returned errors, and Instagram was not extractable. The critical finding that the business is permanently closed was documented as a research discovery, with menu items reconstructed from individual Google review mentions.
